The degree of practising creative leadership and ways to develop it at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University
Abstract:
This study aimed at identifying the degree of practising creative leadership skills and the ways to develop them by the academic leaders of Imam Abdul Rahman Bin Faisal University, based on the perspectives of the research participants. It also seeks to reveal the nature of the statistical differences between the research participants’ responses according to the different study variables, which are gender, type of faculty and service years. To this end, the descriptive method was used and a questionnaire consisting of 46 statements was designed. The questionnaire focused on two specific areas. The first area was the skills of creative leadership, which included six main skills, namely fluency, originality, flexibility, sensitivity to problems, elaboration and risk-taking. The second area was the ways to develop creative leadership, of which a stratified random sample of 349 members participated in the study. The following are the findings of the study The degree of practising creative leadership by the academic leaders of Imam Abdul Rahman Bin Faisal University was high, with an average of (3.55), The ways of development that help academic leaders to practice creative leadership received a degree of high importance, with an average of (2.80) . There were statistically significant differences in the degree of practicing creative leadership skills by academic leaders due to the ‘gender’ variable, in favour of male participants,There were no statistically significant differences in the degree of practicing creative leadership skills by academic leaders due to the ‘type of faculty’ variable, except for the skill of fluency, in favour of for humanities faculties,There were no statistically significant differences in the degree of practicing creative leadership skills by academic leaders due to the ‘service years’ variable. Of recommendations and the following are the most important: It is necessary to adopt mechanisms concerned with developing the leadership skills of academic leaders, establish a centre for creativity and innovation and develop a university leadership centre in line with the modern creative trends at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University
