The urban year in some foreign universities and the ability to benefit from it in Saudi universities 'comparative study'

Abstract


The study aimed to identify the status of the preparatory year in some universities in the United States of America and Australia to benefit from the development of preparatory year in Saudi universities. To achieve this goal, the researcher used the comparative descriptive method with style of George Periday. The study resulted in a set of findings the most important of which: The preparatory year for students at the universities of the United States of America and Australia offers the opportunity to choose many programs and courses according to their academic needs, individual skills and language level. While there are no programs for the preparatory year in the Saudi universities in general, and only limited specific courses in their universities. The specialization is chosen for the student based on the average in the preparatory year. The two countries of comparative study were focused on conducting a periodic evaluation of the programs and courses the preparatory year, The United States also holds an annual conference to discuss the preparatory year and ways to develop it and the problems it faces. Australia has a multi-disciplinary preparatory year program Where students qualify to combine two different disciplines at once. The student average for the preparatory year in the universities of the two countries of comparison is not included in the student's GPA, unlike that of the universities in Saudi Arabia.
