Abstract

The current research aimed to reduce the risk of developing some emotional and behavioral disorders in children with hearing impairment, through a preventive program using Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATHS). The research sample consisted of (6) children with hearing impairment at Al Amal School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the city of Benha, whose ages ranged between (8-12) years, and with hearing loss ranging between (60-85) decibels. The researcher used a scale to estimate indicators of anti-social behavior (prepared by the researcher), and a preventive program using PATHS (prepared by: The researcher) used the experimental approach with a single group design with pre-, post- and follow-up measurement. The results indicated the effectiveness of the preventive program using PATHS in reducing the risk of developing some emotional and behavioral disorders such as anti-social behavior in children with hearing impairment, as there were statistically significant differences at the significance level (α ≤ 0.05) between the average ranks of the scores of the children of the research group in the pre- and post-measurements on the scale for assessing indicators of anti-social behavior, in favor of the pre-application, as well as the absence of statistically significant differences between the average ranks of the scores of the children of the research group in the two post- and follow-up measurements on the scale for assessing indicators of anti-social behavior, It also confirmed the presence of a statistically significant difference at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) between the average ranks of the scores of the children of the research group in the post-measurement of the anti-social behavior indicators scale due to the main effect of the variable degree of hearing loss (deaf/Hard of hearing)for the benefit of deaf children.
