The Relative Contribution of Epistemological Beliefs and Emotional Creativity in Predicting Academic Engagement among Students of the Language Departments at the Faculty of Education

Abstract

  The Research aims to determine the Relationship between academic Engagement, epistemological Beliefs, and emotional Creativity, and determine the relative Contribution of both epistemological Beliefs and emotional Creativity in predicting academic Engagement among Students of the language Departments at the Faculty of Education, Helwan University, as well as determining the Differences between males and females in the three Research Variables. The Research Sample consisted of (381) male and female Students studying foreign Languages at the College of Education (English - French - German). Measurements  of epistemological Beliefs, a measure of emotional Creativity, and a measure of academic Engagement were applied. The descriptive, comparative, correlational Approach was used, and after statistical Treatment using the Pearson correlation coefficient. Multiple Regression Analysis and T-Test for independent Groups. The Research found that there is a statistically significant Relationship between epistemological Beliefs and academic Engagement, as well as there is a statistically significant Relationship between emotional Creativity and academic Engagement, and the possibility of both  the total score of epistemological Beliefs and  the two Dimensions (Originality and Preparation) of emotional Creativity in predicting Students’ Grades percentage (50%)  on the academic Engagement Scale. The Research also found that there are not statistically significant Differences between the average scores of males and the average scores of females in the Epistemological Beliefs Scale, the Emotional Creativity Scale, and the Academic Engagement Scale,  with the exception of the first and third Dimensions of emotional Creativity Scale.
