The Degree to Which English Language Faculty Members in Jordanian Universities Possess Digital Empowerment Competencies and its Relationship to their Professional Competence

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the degree to which English language faculty members in Jordanian universities possess digital empowerment competencies and its relationship to their professional competence. It used the descriptive, correlational approach, The study sample consisted of (66) English language teachers in a number of public and private Jordanian universities. To achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was developed consisting of two sections: The first section is related to the areas of digital empowerment which consists of four areas. The first area is digital content production. The second area is digital communication, and the third one is management and organization, the fourth area is security and protection, and The second section includes a measure of professional competence, which includes three dimensions: (cognitive competence, personal competence, and performance competence). Among English language faculty members. The questionnaire was implemented during the first semester of the year (2022-2023), the results showed that the degree to which English language faculty members possess digital empowerment competencies was high in the four areas, and their level of professional competence was high. The results also showed that there is a correlation between the degree to which English language faculty members possess digital empowerment competencies and their level of professional competence. In light of the results of the study, the researcher recommended the need to circulate the digital empowerment program to all faculty members from all specializations.
