The Status-Quo of the Gifted Programs in the Light of Some Global Standards from the Viewpoints of the Gifted Students and Primary School Teachers

Abstract


The current research aimed to identify the status-quo of the gifted programs in
light of the following criteria learning and development, curriculum planning,
teaching methods, educational environment, educational programs, learning and
development from the viewpoints of the gifted students and teachers in the
primary stage. The research made use of the descriptive method, and the research
community was the gifted students enrolled in the gifted programs in the primary
stage (grade six) and their teachers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the
participants totaling (176) students and (63) teachers were randomly assigned. The
researcher developed two questionnaires: the first for the talented students and the
second for their teachers to gather the target data. The results of the study
revealed that the following criteria were achieved, namely, the gifted students
agreed about learning and development, the gifted students and their teachers
agreed about planning programs and teaching methods, the gifted students agreed
about the educational environment, and also the gifted students strongly agreed
about the programs. Finally, the researcher recommended paying attention to the
utilization of the modern techniques in the gifted programs to activate the
education of the talented students, providing the requirements for improving the
status-quo of the gifted programs at the primary stage, creating the appropriate
environment that improves the gifted programs in the primary stage and
organizing workshops and seminars to discuss the different ways of improving the
gifted programs in the primary stage.
