The Mentalization as Moderated in the Relationship between the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Strategies and Borderline Personality Disorder among the University Students with Physically Disabilities

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the relationship the Cognitive emotion regulation strategies and Borderline Personality Disorder among students with physical disabilities, and to determine the mediating role of Mentalization. The sample included 117 Students with physical disabilities at King Khalid University. the Cognitive emotion regulation strategies Scale, Mentalization scale, and the Borderline Personality Disorder Scale were used. The study showed a statistically significant positive correlation between Mentalization: Mentalization related to oneself and others, and motives for Mentalization, and adaptive the Cognitive emotion regulation strategies. There is a statistically significant negative correlation between the Mentalization and the maladaptive Cognitive emotion regulation strategies, and statistically significant negative correlation between borderline personality disorder, and the maladaptive the Cognitive emotion regulation strategies. There is a statistically significant positive correlation between borderline personality disorder and maladaptive the Cognitive emotion regulation strategies, and a statistically significant negative correlation between Mentalization and borderline personality disorder. The study showed the Mentalization and adaptive the Cognitive emotion regulation strategies for contribution in predicting borderline personality disorder. It showed a direct effect of Mentalization and adaptive cognitive strategies on borderline personality disorder, and an indirect effect of cognitive strategies on borderline personality disorder.
