THE REALITY AND CHALLENGES OF TOURISM FOR PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS (ACCESSIBLE TOURISM) IN THE AL-BAHA REGION

Abstract

The current research aims to reveal the reality of tourism for individuals with special needs and the challenges they face in the Al-Baha region. The descriptive survey method was used to achieve the objectives of the research, and the study sample consisted of (94) individuals with special needs in the Al-Baha region. The researchers prepared a scale to detect the reality and challenges of accessible tourism, consisting of (61) items distributed over (8) dimensions. The results indicate that the reality of tourism for individuals with special needs in the Al-Baha region was weak, with a mean of (1.97). While the challenges facing this type of tourism in the Al-Baha region were high, with a mean of (3.72). The results indicate that there were statistically significant differences in the mean ranks of individuals with special needs regarding the reality of their tourism due to the type of their disabilities in favor of those with behavioral disorders. While there were no statistically significant differences in the mean ranks of individuals with special needs about the reality of their tourism according to their place of residence, the nature of their visit, the duration of their visit, the frequency of their visit, the means of transportation, their gender, and their educational levels. However, no statistically significant differences were found in the mean ranks of individuals with special needs about the challenges facing their tourism due to their place of residence, gender, educational levels
