Abstract

The aim of the current research is to develop critical thinking skills through teaching literary texts using a suggested strategy based on the linguistic analysis approach. To achieve this aim, the following instruments and materials were prepared: a list of critical thinking skills needed for the preparatory pupils, a critical thinking skills' test, a teacher's guide and a pupil's work sheet that include some activities to develop their critical thinking skills. The analytical descriptive and the quasi-experimental designs were used during implementation. The sample was (84) preparatory pupils. The experimental group included (42) preparatory pupils at Abo Hussin school and the control group included (42) preparatory pupils at Kafr Elnosery school. The instruments were pre-administered to the two groups. The control group received regular instruction whereas the experimental group was taught through the suggested strategy based on the linguistic analysis approach. The instruments were then post administered to the two groups. Results revealed a positive effect of the suggested strategy based on the linguistic analysis approach on developing the critical thinking skills of the experimental group pupils. Based on the previously mentioned, the researcher recommended training teachers to use the suggested strategy based on linguistic analysis approach to develop the critical thinking skills.
