Flexible learning to Meet the Needs Accompanied with Family Compatibility for Multi-age Students and their Families

Abstract

The research aimed to improve family compatibility by meeting the needs accompanied with it for adolescent multi-ages and their families, through a program based on flexible learning. In the process of achieving the goal, a list of needs related to improving family compatibility for students was built, based on examining educational literature and conducting personal interviews with home economics/ family education, teachers, surveying family and specialists opinions using focus group sessions. Then building the program to include: learning outcomes, content, teaching and learning materials, Timeline, and the teacher's guide for the program with its activities for: students and another in common with their families, and program evaluation tools to: (estimate the extent of improvement in students’ practices related to family compatibility, and measure the feasibility of the program). The program was presented to a sample of (16) students and their families, in flexible meetings directly in the school, and another remotely using WhatsApp and Facebook, for (81) hours over a period of (6) weeks during summer activity period. The research tools applied, and the most important results revealed: Improvement of students’ practices associated with family compatibility by (68%), and the feasibility of the program from parents’ viewpoint as: the degree of family participation reached (65.3%), and the level of parent’s satisfaction with the program reached (87.5%). and the level of children's benefit reached (79%). In light of the results we recommend introducing flexible learning programs that supports family-partnership in a way that benefits both children and their families.
