Grandparents- Preparatory School Grandchildren Bond and its Relation to their Emotional and Spiritual Intelligences

Abstract

This study aimed at examining the grandparent role type, grandchild gender, and grandparent gender as factors of the individual differences in grandparent-grandchild bond as perceived by the grandchild, besides exploring the grandparent role in the development of his grandchild emotional and spiritual intelligences; through detecting the relationship between these intelligences of grandparent and his grandchild, and the effect of the grandparent-grandchild bond, and its interaction with the grandchild gender, on grandchild emotional and spiritual intelligences. The study developed three measures for grandparent-grandchild bond, emotional intelligence, and spiritual intelligence. The study sample consisted of (151) preparatory school students grandchildren, and (41) from their closed grandparents.
Results: There were differences in grandparent-grandchild bond, and its components, as perceived by the grandchild, according to the grandparent role type towards apportioned type, grandchild gender towards females, but no differencies according to grandparent gender or its interaction with grandchild gender.The study introduced evidences of the grandparent effect on his grandchild emotional and spiritual intelligences; there were strong correlation between these intelligences of grandparent and his grandchild, and a relationship between each of the two intelligences with the grandparent-grandchild bond with no effect of the grandchild gender on these relationships.
