Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a Phonological Awareness program in improving  Phonological Working Memory and Phonological Sensitivity in Educable Mental retarded children, the sample of the study consisted of (12) children from Educable Mental retarded children who joined Mental Educational school in Kafr ElShikh Governorate, The sample is divided into two groups: the experimental group (6) and control group (6) children Educable Mentally handicapped children aging between (11-13) years, and their IQ. ratios ranged between (50-70), semi-experimental method with Experimental design with two groups, Exploratory group (12) children Educable Mentally handicapped children were choosen to investigate the study tools's psychometric caractirisitics.  The researcher used the following tools:  1- Stanford- Bennie Scale (Fifth Edition).  2- Adaptive Behavior Scale (Translated by: Farouk Sadek). 3- Phonological Working Memory scale  (prepared by researcher). 4- Phonological Sensitivity scale   (prepared by researcher). 5- The Phonological Awareness Program designed to study (prepared by researcher). The results reveal that: 1-  There are statistically significant differences in the mean of the rank of experimental group in Phonological Working Memory in two measurements pre-and post towards post measurement. 2- There are statistically significant differences in the mean of the rank of experimental group in Phonological Sensitivity in two measurements pre-and post towards post measurement. 3- There are statistically significant differences between the mean of the rank of experimental group and the control group in Phonological Working Memory in post- measure towards experimental group. 4- There are statistically significant differences between the mean of the rank of experimental group and the control group in Phonological Sensitivity in post- measure towards experimental group. 5- No statistically significant differences between the mean of the rank of experimental group in Phonological Working Memory in two measurements after and follow up. 6- No statistically significant differences between the mean of the rank of experimental group in Phonological Sensitivity in two measurements after and follow up.
