Habits of Mind and its Relationship of Critical Thinking Among Students of Taif University

Abstract


This research aim to reveal the habits of the mind and the patterns of critical thinking prevalent among students of Taif University to identify the differences in habits and patterns between students of the ( Science College and Designs and Home Economics College) at Taif University. This is to know the impact of these habits in predicting critical thinking among students. Therefore, the researchers  use (197) students as a research sample, which is consisted as (53 female students in the College of Science, 144 female students in the College of Designs and Home Economics), the researchers applied the scale of mind habits taken from the study (Ilham Brik, 2015) after developing and adding new paragraphs to it, and the scale of critical thinking, which was prepared by the researcher (Khaled Al-Otaibi, 2012). In result, the researchers found that the habits of mind are low For the female students of Taif University, except for the dimensions of adventure and perseverance, while the level of critical thinking high , especially in the dimension of arguments assessment. Also, they found a correlative correlation statistically significant between the habits of reason and critical thinking among students, and differences were found in both habits of reason and critical thinking in favor of students of the College of Designs And for the benefit of the first level, and finally it was found that critical thinking can be expected through their degrees on each of (listening effectively, using all the senses, lifelong learning, perseverance).
