The efficacy of a psychological counseling program to relieve symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder in a sample of students with visual impairment

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of rational emotive behavioral counseling program (REBGCP) in the treatment of the obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) The study included 10 adolescents with visual impairment between 14-17 years of age. The were divided into an experimental group and a control one, each of which consisted of 10 subjects (REBGCP) and Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (OCS) were used. Results indicated that there were significant differences between the mean scores attained by the experimental group on the pre-post teats of obsessive-compulsive symptom reduction in favor of the post-test. There were significant differences between the mean scores attained by the experimental and control groups on the post-test of obsessive-compulsive symptom reduction in favor of the (REBGCP) group. In addition, there were no significant differences between the mean scores attained by the experimental group on the post-teat and that of the same group on the 5 month follow- up test of obsessive- compulsive. Limitations of the current study and suggestions for further research were discussed.
