A Proposed Perspective for Mathematics Teachers Professional Development in Kuwait in the Light of the Third International Maths and Science Study (TIMSS) Requirements

ABSTRACT
The present study aimed to present a proposed perspective for professional development for Mathematics teachers in light of the requirements of the Third International Maths and Science Study (TIMSS). The study made use of the descriptive method and presented a conceptual framework of the teachers’ professional development including its main features. The study also portrayed the Mathematics teachers’ features and the philosophy of the Third International Maths and Science Study (TIMSS). In the light of the conceptual framework and previous studies, the proposed perspective has been formulated including several key points as follows: the objectives, basics and dimensions of the proposed perspective which included the following: professional development objectives of Mathematics teachers, fields of professional skills development for Mathematics teachers, criteria for professional growth of Mathematics teachers, methods of professional development for Mathematics teachers according to the proposed perspective, designing a professional development program for Mathematics teachers according to the proposed perspective, requirements of applying the proposed perspective, mechanisms of implementing the proposed perspective for the professional development of Mathematics teachers and the procedural steps for implementing the proposed perspective of the professional development of the Mathematics teachers.
