Perceived Toxic Relationships by Fibromyalgia Patients and Their Relationship to workaholism A Psychometric and Clinical Study

Abstract

The current study aims to explore the nature of the relationship between perceived toxic relationships and workaholism among a sample of fibromyalgia patients. The psychometric sample consisted of 128 fibromyalgia patients, with a mean age of 35.79 years and a standard deviation of 4.32 years, to validate the reliability and validity of the study's scales. The main study sample included 134 fibromyalgia patients with a mean age of 36.62 years and a standard deviation of 5.27 years, The clinical study sample consisted of one terminal case selected from the study participants, characterized by the highest scores on both the Perceived Toxic Relationships Scale and the workaholism Scale, The current research employed both descriptive-correlational and clinical methodologies. Data for the psychometric study were collected using the Perceived Toxic Relationships and workaholism Scales (developed by the researcher). Data for the clinical study were gathered through a Clinical Case Study Form (developed by the researcher), selected cards from the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), the Sachs Sentence Completion Test, recurring dream analysis, and open-ended interviews, The study results confirmed the validity of the proposed hypotheses, demonstrating a positive correlation between perceived toxic relationships and workaholism among fibromyalgia patients. The clinical study also highlighted the unique individual characteristics of the case and the psychological dynamics of fibromyalgia patients, supporting the clinical hypothesis, The study's findings were discussed in light of its theoretical framework and previous research. Based on these findings, educational recommendations and suggested research ideas were presented.
