Effectiveness of a play-based training program to modify typical behavior in children with intellectual disabilities who can learn

Abstract

ABSTRACT:
The present study aimed to investigate the effect of a training program based on the play to modify stereotypic behaviors of children with mental disability whom are able to learn. Sample of study consisted of (15) children of those with mental disabilitywhom are able to learn at south Burydah Intellectual Education Institute, Qassim Region, Saudi Arabia, there IQ range is (50-70) degree, and their age range between (9-12) years. They were divided into two groups: an experimental group of (8) children, and a control group of (7) children. The Training Program Based on The Play was applied to the experimental group; however, the stereotypic behaviors scale was applied to the two groups, The result of the study indicated that there were statistically significant differences between the average ranks scores of the experimental group and  the control group  after applying the Training Programon thestereotypic behaviors scale in favor of the experimental group. It was also found that there were statistically significant differences between the average ranks scores of the experimental group in the pre and post application of the Training Program on the stereotypic behaviors scale in favor of the post application. It was also found that there were no statistically significant differences between the average ranks scores of the experimental group in post and follow application of the training program on the stereotypic behaviors scale after two months the implementationof the program.
