Abstract

The research aimed to prepare a wisdom-based thinking program to develop grammatical concepts and reduce parsing anxiety of secondary stage students. The research followed the quasi-experimental design of two groups (an experimental and a control groups) each group consisted of (34) first-year secondary stage students. The researchers prepared: a list of grammatical concepts for first-year secondary stage students, comprising (9) main concepts and (30) sub-concepts. They also prepared a grammatical concepts test. Additionally, they created an anxiety scale consisting of three dimensions of parsing anxiety. The program included a students' textbook, in which the grammar lessons were formed according to the wisdom-based thinking approach. Furthermore, they provided a teacher's guide to assist teachers in teaching the program using wisdom-based thinking. The results showed that there are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the two research groups on the grammatical concepts test favoring the experimental group. Furthermore, there are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental and control groups on the grammatical anxiety scale favoring the experimental group. Additionally, it was found that there are no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the students in the experimental group in the grammatical concepts test and the parsing anxiety scale in both the post and follow-up measurements. Therefore, the effectiveness of wisdom-based thinking program in developing grammatical concepts and reducing parsing anxiety has been verified.
