Abstract

The current study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a program based on dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) on reducing bipolar disorder symptoms in a sample of university students diagnosed with bipolar disorder type II. A quasi-experimental design was utilized, and a purposive sample of 24 participants participated, with a mean age of 20.8 years and a standard deviation of 2.6 years, was randomly divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group, each comprising 10 participants. The Bipolar Disorder Scale, consisting of 49 items distributed across four dimensions, and a DBT-based training program consisting of 22 sessions were used as study instruments. The results indicated that participants in the experimental group experienced a significant decrease in bipolar disorder symptoms compared to the control group, and this effect was sustained during the follow-up phase. The study concluded that the program was effective in improving the participants' condition and recommended providing training and supervision opportunities for therapists and mental health counselors in educational and healthcare institutions to learn and apply DBT strategies with university students diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
