The Phenomenon of cheating in secondary education in the state of Kuwait from the point of view of students: Causes and methods of treatment (Field study)

Abstract

This study aims to identify the prominent reasons of cheating in exams in the point of view of the students of the secondary schools in the state of Kuwait. The descriptive analytical approach has been followed in this study. The study is concluded with several results, the most important of which are: (1) the reasons of cheating in exams are generally high in all dimensions. The personal and psychological reasons ranked the first with mean of 3.76. the paragraphs titled “Fear of Failure” and “Fear of not Attaining High Marks” are the highest with the mean of 3.9-4.03. one of the most significant reasons is the psychological stress of the families on their children to obtain high marks. (2) in the point of view of the students of the sample, the phenomenon of cheating in exams can be mitigated by “Examinations System Training” and “Replacement of Traditional Methods of Examining by Modern Means”. (3) the results of the study confirm that there are statistically significant differences related to gender variable in favor of female students in the aspect of “Educational Reasons” and the aspect of “Mitigation of Cheating in Exams Phenomenon”.The most important recommendations of the study are: (1) introduce a course focusing on ethical values in all educational stages on the basis of Islamic Morals and their impact on individuals and community.
