Challenges of Scientific Research in the State of Kuwait from the Viewpoint of Faculty Staff Members in Light of Some Variables

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal the challenges faced within the scientific researches in the sectors of humanitarian, social and educational sciences in the state of Kuwait, from a viewpoint of Kuwait University’s faculty members, as well asthe various opinions of each member, on the challenges faced by scientific research on humanitarian, social and educational sciences, which can be categorized into the follow: the gender, years of experience and academic level.The implemented method for carrying out this study is a descriptive analytical approach, which was implemented using a questionnaire, distributed to a sample of 99 persons, which have provided the following results: first and foremost, the most challenging points, having gained the most points: basing the academic advancement of researchers on the scientific research, the lack of benefits from such researches by decision-makers, insufficient research funding and the lack of understanding of scientific research to the public. The second set of challenges faced, gaining an average number of points, contains: lack of participation from the private sectors in terms of supporting scientific researches, lack of attracting scientific competence concerned with scientific researches, as well as the insufficient dependency of national institutions on such researches, in addition to the dominance of individual research over the formation of research teams and the existence of an  
 administrative bureaucracy in scientific research institutions, as well as the lack of support from institution in supporting researches. The third and final set, with the least points gained, are: the insufficiency of  scientific resources, lack of ethical scientific morality amongst researches, in addition to the biasing in result interpretation and the lack of academic freedom. There were no statistically significant differences found in the opinions of t Kuwait University’s faculty members, due to the following variables: the gender, years of experience and academic level.
