The Educational Role of the New Media in Cultivating the National Identity of the Saudi child: An applied Study on a Sample of Animated Series on the SBC website.

Abstract:
The study aimed to identify the educational role of the new media in cultivating the National Identity of the Saudi child, by testing the assumptions of Cultivation theory, by conducting an analytical study in which the content of the children's cartoon series "Abu Mallouh" was analyzed because it is the only social series on the website of the Saudi SBC channel On the Internet. A field study was also conducted, and an intentional sample was chosen from the viewers of the cartoon series of 200 children distributed equally between males and females, as well as among primary and middle school students in Taif Governorate.  Some statistical methods were used such as Pearson correlation coefficient, arithmetic mean, T-test, Chi-square, and percentages. The study results showed that there is a non-statistically inverse correlation between the respondents' awareness of the realism of the content of the animated series they watch and their attitudes formed for the enhancement of the national identity The results also showed that there is a correlative, non-statistically significant correlation between the intensity of the respondents watching the animated series and their attitudes formed from the enhancement of the National Identity. This indicates that their attitudes toward National Identity were not actually due to watching the cartoon series, but because of their exposure to other sources. It also shows, according to the analytical study, the rise in negative traits, compared to the rise in positive traits of the National Identity, according to the field study. This means that the analytical reality differs from the field and the cultivation does not happen, as the study sample view of children from the reality of identity traits has not been reflected in the cartoon content, which represents a deficiency in the promotion and implantation of the national identity. And one of the most important recommendations of the study is the need to increase the production of the Entertainment Authority for animation series that work on imparting the national identity of the Saudi child, and the balance in presenting personalities and traits.
