Abstract

This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of the use of the experiential learning model in teaching science to develop Science And Engineering Practices and some social skills in primary school students. The study procedures were followed according to descriptive and semi-experimental approaches involving an experimental design of equivalent groups. Instrumentation included two data collection tools: the Science And Engineering Practices Test, and the Social Skills Scale for primary school students, with the latter including three sub-measures (positive interdependence skill scale, self-assertiveness skill scale, listening skill scale). The sample of the study was selected from the sixth grade pupils in Mohammed Anwar Hassan Primary School in Beni Suef Educational Zone for the academic year (2017/2018). The sample consisted of (78) students of both genders who were divided into two groups, one experimental and the other control. The study identified the appropriate scientific and engineering practices for the sixth grade students, as well as the social skills, and figured out the dimensions of each skill in proportion to the students of the primary stage. The results of the experiment revealed that the model of experiential learning had a significant effect on the improvement of Science And Engineering Practices, while its effectiveness in improving the social skills of students in the experimental group was weak, although there was a significant impact on the intervention model compared to the conventional method of teaching.
