The Mediating Role of Personality Factors in the Relationship between Cultural Intelligence and Moral Motivation in an Egyptian and Gulf Sample (a Cross-Cultural Comparative Study)

Abstract

The research aimed to determine the level of cultural intelligence, personality factors, and moral motivation, and to investigate the differences between those with high and low cultural intelligence and personality factors in moral motivation, and identify the percentages of contribution of cultural intelligence and personality factors to the variance of moral motivation in addition to what is explained by "culture", and  investigate the possibility of predicting students' moral motivation through the variables of cultural intelligence and personality factors, and to investigate the mediating role of personality factors between cultural intelligence and moral motivation, on a sample of 800 Egyptian and Gulf students with an m.(21.67) and a s.d.(0.693), and the researchers used the descriptive comparative correlational method, and 3 scales were applied, and the research reached several results, the most important of which are: the existence of a difference in the three variables in their dimensions according to the research sample, and statistically significant differences were found between the average scores of students with low and high cultural intelligence in the total score of the variable of moral motivation in the direction of those with high cultural intelligence, and that the four personality factors affect their high levels of moral motivation, and it was possible to arrange the variables according to their pure ability to explain the variance in moral motivation: "cultural intelligence (36.8%) and personality factors combined (2.8%)", and that the variables (the three personality factors "neuroticism, kindness, conscientiousness" partially mediate the relationship between cultural intelligence and moral motivation).
