Problems of Saudi women working in commercial stores "A field study on Riyadh and Al-Kharj Governorate"

Abstract

Research purpose: the research aims to determine the self, social and work environment problems facing the Saudi Sales woman in Commercial stores and to evaluate woman satisfaction with her work in these stores, and to shed lights on the social and economic variables and factors which related to these problems and level of satisfaction. . The questionnaire is prepared in a way to consist of three main parts, the first part includes research variables (age, marital status, academic qualification, work years, store type, market and district name, city), the second part presents the items indexing numbers problems perceived to face working woman in commercial stores. The third one is composed of a scale of workwoman satisfaction with her work. The questionnaire applied to sample of 121 Saudi sales women in commercial stores located both in Riyadh and Alkhuraj cities. The data is analyzed by SPSS SOFTWAR; tables including crosstabs, mean differences analysis and related statistics were obtained and presented in the fourth chapter of the research.The result of the study shows that workwomen in commercial stores faced many self-problems such as:  Feeling headache because of work pressures, with an average mean totaling (2. 73).  Fatigue and weakness as a result of long working hours, with an average mean totaling (2. 26).  Depression and Inferiority because the inappropriate work for the education level, with an average mean totaling (2. 09).  With respect to social problems facing workwoman in commercial stores, such problems include:  The customs and tradition represents a problem the workwoman faced with an average mean totaling (2. 75).  Society view towards the saleswoman in commercial stores is a negative view, with an average mean totaling (2. 74).  The impact of work conditions on the social relationship with family and friends, with an average mean totaling (2. 72).  Family negative criticisms for late working hours, with an average mean totaling (2. 64).  Work conditions negative impact on sons’ education, with an average mean totaling (2. 63).  The conflict between work’s requirements and husband’s marital expectations as it causes problems with an average mean totaling “2. 47”.  The workwomen faced in commercial stores many of work environment’s problems, such as:  The salary is not equivalent to the women delivered work with an average “2. 57”.  Night work conditions present problems, with an average mean totaling “2. 52”
