Abstract

Research summary
Due to the importance of professional development of academic leaders. Many countries in the world have been interested in developing plans and programs, Believing that the continuous development of its academic leadership is the best option available to them to achieve competitiveness and excellence. Therefore, this study aims to identify the most important theoretical foundations Which are based on professional development as well as what are the justifications and reasons for interest in the professional development of academic leaders, , As well as to identify the most important contemporary trends For the development of academic leadership and Highlighting the reality of the professional development of the academic leadership of the Libyan universities.
The study has followed the descriptive approach, which is based on the interpretation of information and data in an attempt to develop the reality that is under study.
To achieve the objectives of the study, the steps went as follows:

The first axis: which had identified the problem of the study, its questions, relevance and limitations, as well as functions and tools , terms and preview the most previous studies related to the study and gives  comments .
The second axis: the recognition of the concept of leadership and its importance for universities.
The third axis: the presentation of the conceptual framework for professional development as a concept, principles, objectives and significance. 
The fourth axis: review of the most important justifications for the interest of professional development for leadership is scientific and technological progress and globalization, quality and competitiveness and accounting education.
The fifth axis: review of the most important contemporary trends for professional development, the most important of educated organizations, career planning and the empowerment of vocational training.
Axis 6: highlighted the reality of the professional development of academic leaders at Libyan universities.
Axis 7 : included research recommendations, which include:

1)      Provision of infrastructure in the fields of technology and communication, the establishment of special centers for professional development within universities.
2)   Adequate financial allocation from the authorities responsible for the universities to cover the expenses of professional development programs with legislation which entitles the universities provide self-financing and investment resources available to cover the expenses of professional development programs.
3)   The stimulus material and moral support for those who attend and professional development programs to increase other motivations.
4)   The holding of seminars, conferences and workshops that contribute to the awareness of the importance of professional development and academic leaders in accordance with the contemporary trends in this area.
5)   Take advantage of regional and global experiences in how the University Academic leadership development.
6)   Follow-up to technological developments, employment in the educational process.
7)   Raise awareness of the importance of training, forms and methods of direct and indirect.
8)   Attention to learn about the latest developments and trends in the field of developmental entrances and professional development.
